Craftsmanship
DancesWithLathes.com is the woodworking site of Texas craftsman Larry Giglio. Larry has been hand crafting fine furniture for over 40 years. Dancing With Lathes refers to the organic, hands-on nature of turning wood by hand from rough form to elegant finished products. Unlike the precision of crafting formal furniture such as dressers, night stands, or desks, the use of a Lathe lends itself to the artistic freedom and form-as-you-go nature of woodworking. Where cold steel meets wood, the balance between craftsman and finished product is a careful choreographed dance with man and machine. From his shop in Mesquite, Tx, his creations blend the role of artistry and utilitarianism. His latest work consists of simple yet effective pieces skillfully crafted painstakingly by hand. The wooden bowls, wine stoppers, and other every day items are all hand made, and are as decorative as they are useful. Seemingly gone are the days of Made in American, where true skill, durability, and lasting quality have been replaced by cheap items mass produced overseas for pennies an hour of labor. Not here.
