Q: Is it safe to serve food in the bowls for sale?

A: Yes the wood is all natural American wood, and the bowls have been handmade in America using steel tools, hand sanded, and finished using boiled linseed oil. Once cured, this penetrating oil not only protects the wood surface, but actually penetrates deep inside the wood, helping keep harmful bacteria out even if the wood is cut, scrapped, or chipped due to heavy use, etc.

Q: How do I care for my wood bowl?

A: The most important thing to remember is that water is the enemy of wood. If the bowl is used in a fashion that gets it damp, simply wipe the bowl down after use and dry with a towel. Furthermore, do not dishwash hand-made wooden bowls, as the harsh conditions of extreme temperatures and detergents will quickly degrade the quality of the wood.

If the bowl is used as a mixing or serving bowl and over time you notice the wood is getting dried out as the original finish is being removed with use, to help restore its look, first wash the bowl with some warm water and dry with a towel.  Let it dry overnight and the next day apply plain mineral oil available from drugstores, food stores or other retailers and rub into the wood.  Work the mineral oil into the wood with a single sheet folded paper towel but do not rub it dry.  Let a small sheen stay on the bowl and let this stay on the bowl overnight.  The next day buff the bowl dry using either paper towels or a soft clean rag.  Do this 3 or 4 times a year depending on use and the bowl will stay in great condition for years.  Do not use vegetable; canola or olive oil, or nut oils such as walnut or macadamia nut oils as these can get rancid as they dry out.  Mineral oil does not get rancid so its the perfect oil to retore all your wooden items that you use in the kitchen.
